How does one know greatness? Is it the school someone attends? Is it how many childhood trophies they have? Is it money? Is it good parenting?
The greats of our world typically struggle until they are finally recognized. They may have trouble in math class, run awkwardly, only have a few friends, go unnoticed... until a certain moment. Then, suddnely, it's as if the world simultaneously notices greatness.
But then there are always the few who knew ahead of time that greatness would come to pass. Enter: Ed Weiland.
Now, at this point in the blog, you're wondering, okay, Dallas Courier, what's the deal? Why are you writing about greatness? And who is this Ed Weiland?
Patience, my loyal blog reader. Ed Weiland is a courier, which, of course, is why we as a courier service Dallas is so interested in him. And you know what Ed knew long before the rest of us? He knew Jeremy Lin had the makings of greatness.
By day Ed delivers packages for FedEx. By hobby, Ed loves basketball. And in 2010, Ed knew greatness was coming. Who knew the world would be looking at an article a courier wrote about a basketball player? But they are. Everyone is talking about Lin and now everyone is talking about the courier who knew something was special about this unassuming basketball player.
Here is what we also know: Ed Weiland is greatness. He is loyal to his job, his passions and his family. Weiland is a math-man. He is smart to say the least. Not surprising for a FedEx ground driver. Just ask our deliveries Dallas teams - you better be smart and quick on your feet to last in the courier business. Ed has that. And you know the courier trait he also posesses? Patience. Just how do I know? While countless others were blogging about the obvious players in college basketball, Ed was focused on a little talked about Harvard player. He patiently waited for greatness to arrive, and when Lin, after rejection, got signed by the Knicks, he saw his patience pay off. Ed was right, and he was right in a big way. Linsanity has taken over basketball. He is awesome to watch. He is greatness on the court.
So here's to couriers who are passionate about their jobs and their hobbies. Ed, our Dallas couriers salute you!
