Dallas Courier: 635 Update

Posted by Aynsley Kindig on Mon, Jun 20, 2011 @ 15:06 PM

Twas the night before work when all through the city,

Lots of creatures were stirring, yes even a kitty!

The workmen were out on the streets with big cones,

To shut down a lane despite all our groans.

The tired adults were nestled all snug in their beds,

While tolls and traffic danced in their heads.

And oh to dream of I-635 growing,

We’ll awake to find the dream as a reality, glowing.

Fine. My poem was cheesy. But you have to admit it is at least clever. If you read our couriers Dallas blog, then you recently read about the I-635 expansion. It’s pretty darn cool if you ask me, and honestly, I know our 24 hour Dallas couriers can’t wait to see all of the lanes open up.

But, we figured it was high time to update you on the happenings along our beloved highway. Things are happening, folks. So you best keep informed! Check it out:

If you haven’t noticed, the HOV lanes on 635 have been closing on and off for a while now. Well, get used to it! Progress sometimes means taking a few steps back. That’s the way freeways go (thank you, Ron Washington!). Our couriers Dallas have been keeping a close eye on any and all lane closures. As a courier company that makes 24 hour Dallas deliveries, we always have to know the ins and outs of street and lane closures. Otherwise, we might get caught in some bad news bears stuff. And since we pride ourselves on getting your deliveries completed on time, every time, that means knowing the latest about I-635.

Here are the deets: On June 17th (yes, three days ago), the PERMANENT lane closures started. Anyone who travels 635 often probably has noticed the closure. But the big news is that it is PERMANENT. As in, not leaving. As in, here to stay. As in, get used to it.

“The barrier between the eastbound and westbound HOV lanes is gonna have to be removed so we can use that area to do a traffic shift. That whole area is going to be open up so we can use it for traffic,” LBJ Express Project spokesperson Lara Kohl said.

It’s exciting, really. Think of the ease traveling east to west through DFW will become. Pay a toll and enjoy a quick pass through the Metroplex. I don’t know about you, but I will definitely take it – and so will our couriers in Dallas!
